Located within the bustling IKEA Southampton store, the IKEA Restaurant offers a uniquely satisfying dining experience that seamlessly blends affordability, quality, and a welcoming atmosphere. Specializing in classic Scandinavian cuisine with a contemporary twist, this restaurant is best known for its iconic Swedish meatballs—tender, flavorful spheres bathed in creamy gravy, accompanied by buttery mashed potatoes and vibrant green peas. It’s a dish that not only comforts but also delights with every bite, truly capturing the essence of Swedish home cooking.
Yet, the menu extends well beyond the famous meatballs, featuring a variety of nutritious and tasty options that cater to a range of palates. From the enticing breakfast selections that include delights like black pudding to a host of wholesome, balanced meals, it’s clear that quality and healthfulness are top priorities here. The presence of a family card offering discounts and weekday perks like free coffee add an extra layer of appeal for both regular patrons and casual visitors.
Perched on the top floor of the Southampton IKEA, the restaurant boasts impressive waterside views of the Solent, allowing diners to enjoy their meal alongside panoramic scenes of majestic cruise ships docking and departing—an unexpected but enchanting backdrop that elevates the overall experience. The space is large and impeccably maintained, with a clean, modern aesthetic that’s as inviting as it is practical. While it embraces the self-service format common to IKEA’s restaurants, a slight hustle and bustle naturally accompanies peak times, creating a lively, spirited vibe that some guests find energizing rather than overwhelming.
Customer feedback consistently highlights the friendly and helpful staff who enhance the experience, ensuring that even in the busier moments the service feels personal and attentive. The combination of well-priced, wholesome food and a pleasant dining environment makes this spot a rare gem in Southampton’s restaurant scene. Whether you’re grabbing a nourishing breakfast or settling in for a hearty lunch, the IKEA Restaurant’s offerings are sure to leave you with a warm, contented feeling and a smile.

It's like what a school kitchen should be - good quality healthy food at a reasonable price. Yeah you serve yourself, may need to queue and it can get quite loud with all the crowds but I'd still go again whenever I'm in Southampton!

Large, clean restaurant location. Never thought I'd be giving a five for an Ikea restaurant atmosphere score, but you get to see the cruise ships outside. Staff are friendly and helpful. The place was generally clean and in good condition. Just a slightly wobbly table. Good value nutritious breakfast that is hard to beat. Fun that it has black pudding available too, even though it's an add-on. Don't forget that the first half hour of opening you get free coffee and more later if you are an Ikea family member.

Not only the best place for meatballs but there are plenty more healthy and tasty options. Don't forget your family card that will give you discount against certain dishes and during weekday also free coffee. The restaurant in the Southampton branch is on the top floor with the waterside view to the Solent. The restaurant also offers a good view of the cruise liners on the days when they are docked.

I had lunch at the IKEA restaurant the kther day and went for their classic Swedish meatballs with gravy, mashed potatoes, and peas – and it did not disappoint! The meatballs were tender and flavorful, and the creamy gravy tied everything together perfectly. The mash was smooth and buttery, and the peas added a nice pop of freshness to the plate. Portion size was just right for a hearty meal, and the price is very reasonable for the quality. The restaurant itself is clean, bright, and has a relaxed vibe – perfect for a quick meal while shopping. Overall, a great experience! If you’re visiting IKEA, definitely try their meatballs – they really live up to the hype.

Excellent restaurant located within IKEA, serving a variety of tasty dishes at affordable prices, with a pleasant atmosphere. As a regular customer here, I am slightly biased. Nevertheless, this IKEA restaurant is excellent in my opinion for a number of reasons. The opening hours are excellent, open early until late daily (please check IKEA website for latest hours) and with great facilities. The toilets are always clean, there is plenty of seating and the layout of the restaurant is easy to navigate. I've visited for a number of years and most of my visits have been great (with the odd one or two suffering from stock problems/availability). The staff in the restaurant are very friendly and helpful and there are enough of them, to ensure speedy service and a clean dining area. The menu is varied and the offers they do are exceptional, with special deals currently at breakfast, lunch and dinner, there is something for all of the family. They also offer healthy options for those with children and currently free baby food with the purchase of an adult meal. The drink area is pleasant, accessible and easy to use (self-service) and the free IKEA family tea or coffee deal is fabulous. I highly recommend this location for everything from a drink, to a light-bite, through to a full family dinner. It has something on the menu for everyone and caters for all ages, I admire this. Great service and work from the IKEA Southampton Restaurant team, they recently have had a refit and it is a bit easier to get condiments now. The photos on this review are on the recently passed Swedish Meatball Day! I visited and was pleased to get a 12 plant ball meal for only £2.75! Be inspired and come to visit this restaurant, I guarantee satisfaction! You might even bump into a bear along the way...
